Welcome to Painting into the Light, plein air!

Filmed by the amazing Joe Hawkins of Workshops in Yorkshire, we have put together two new painting videos filmed in the historic coastal town of Staithes, Yorkshire.

Painting plein air can be tricky; painting contre-jour trickier – add changeable UK weather in there and anything could happen! Watch as I talk you through the whole painting process, start to finish. What to do when the light changes completely? How to make that water look like sparkly light, not just blobs of white? I share all my techniques, from compositional choice through to colour mixing decisions. Both films were an absolute joy to make – I hope they encourage you to get out there and give it a go!
