Welcome to week 12 of my 12-week online painting course – available from 12/6/2020.
This week we look at portraits – a potentially complicated and detailed subject with lots of room for frustration! I always try to simplify portraits into colours, shapes and light.
As ever, I start with the observation of shapes and structure in thin paint, loosely refining as I go. The face is not drawn – it is a layered collection of informed shapes.
