Welcome to week 1 of my 12-week online painting course.
It is Tonal Painting week – a painterly warm-up and excellent way to take on my methods of mixing, application and brushwork. I always analyse the tone in my subjects, before I paint them – putting an image into black and white is a handy aid.
Before you start painting, try and number all the tones you can see in the image – where the lightest is 0, and the darkest is 7.
