Welcome to week 9 of my 10-week online oil painting course – available from 29/5/2020.
This week is alla prima portraits – potentially complicated and detailed with lots of room for frustration! I always try to simplify portraits into colours, shapes and light.
I focus again on the thin/thick paint application: getting the thin ground on first, followed by the areas of warm tone, greys and darks. The face is not drawn – it is a layered collection of informed shapes.
